The USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture (CRCC) is accepting applications for two full-time Research Associate positions for a new research initiative investigating religious congregations and other religious organizations in Southern California. Principal investigator for this initiative is Richard Flory, Director of Research, Center for Religion and Civic Culture, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA 90089-0520.
CRCC research associates will conduct qualitative research investigating congregations within diverse communities, focusing on change and innovation, and how congregations are related to their communities. Positions are set to begin July 2014, but could begin as early as June 2014 and will end January 31, 2017. Research Associate positions are one-year, fixed-term renewable appointments.
Research Associates will participate in all phases of the initiative including research team meetings, identifying and developing case studies of religious groups, and writing and publication based on findings from the project. Scholarly output expectations for each research associate include professional conference presentations, the publication of one book and two articles for scholarly journals, as well as other writing for popular audiences. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Candidates must have a PhD in the social scientific study of religion, with experience in qualitative research methodologies, including interviewing and participant observation, and publications on religion and religious groups in urban and community settings. Expertise in quantitative methods is desirable but not required. Candidates must have completed all requirements for the PhD by May 2014.
