Preparations for this summer’s 82nd Annual Meeting are in full swing.  The meeting will be held August 7-9, 2020 at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, located in Union Square and around the corner from the ASA hotel.  We will begin with a Welcoming Reception on the evening of Friday, August 7th.  Similar to last year, we are planning a joint Closing Reception with the ASA Religion Section for the evening of Sunday, August 9.  The Presidential Address will be given by James C. Cavendish, and the Furfey Lecture will be delivered by Kelsey Burke.  The ASA Sociology of Religion Section day is Monday, August 10th.

The theme for this year’s annual meeting is “Communicating Religion’s Relevance.” The meeting will be held August 7-9, 2020 at the Hotel Nikko San Francisco, located in Union Square and around the corner from the ASA hotel.  Our President, James C. Thank you to everyone who attended our 81th annual meeting in New York City and helped make it a great success.  I hope you all found intellectually engaging conversations, met some new people, and enjoyed NYC sites.  Highlights of this year’s meeting included Paula Nesbitt’s Presidential Address, Peter Beyer’s Furfey Lecture, “Religion in Interesting Times: Contesting Form, Function, and Future,” two joint ASR-ASA Sessions, five book salons and discussions, and a joint ASR-ASA Religion Section Reception.  The annual meeting also featured two professionalization workshops focusing on teaching sociology of religion and Louisville Institute research funding opportunities for social scientific studies of religion.  Along with our McNamara and Distinguished Article Awards, we also presented our […]

In many ways, the Association for the Sociology of Religion has enjoyed much success over the past year and is in excellent shape as we enter 2019.  The planning for our 2019 meeting in New York – “Engaging Religion in a Contested Age”- is well underway, and we continue moving forward with Oxford University Press as the publisher of our journal and Gerardo Marti as its editor.

Thank you to everyone who attended our 80th annual meeting in Philadelphia and helped make it a great success.  I hope you all found intellectually engaging conversations, met some new people, and enjoyed Philadelphia sites.  Highlights of this year’s meeting included Daniel V.A. Olson’s Presidential Address, Jennifer Glass’s Furfey Lecture on religion and politics, seven Author Meets Critics sessions, and four Presidential Sessions.  The annual meeting also featured two professionalization workshops focusing on teaching sociology of religion, and Louisville Institute research funding opportunities for social scientific studies of religion.  Along with our McNamara and Distinguished Article Awards, we also presented our second Lifetime Achievement Award.  Congratulations to our award winners:  Helana Darwin (McNamara Award), […]

Preparations for this summer’s 80th Annual Meeting are in full swing.  The meeting will be held August 11-13, 2018 at the Sofitel Hotel in the heart of Philadelphia.  We will begin with a Welcoming Reception on the evening of Saturday, August 11th, during which we will announce the winners of our awards and introduce our newly elected officers.  The Presidential Address will be given by Daniel V.A. Olson, and the Furfey Lecture will be delivered by Jennifer Glass.  The ASA Sociology of Religion Section day is Saturday, August 11th.
