Thank you to everyone who attended our 79th annual meeting in Montreal and helped make it a great success.  I hope you all found intellectually engaging conversations, met some new people, and enjoyed Montreal sites.  Highlights of this year’s meeting included Michael Emerson’s Presidential Address, “Soul of the City: The Depth of How ‘Urban’ Matters in the Sociology of Religion,” Mark Juergensmeyer’s Furfey Lecture, “Thinking Sociologically about Religion and Violence,” sixteen Author Meets Critics sessions, and four ASR/ASA Joint Sessions.  The annual meeting also featured three professionalization workshops focusing on graduate student experiences, teaching sociology of religion, and Louisville Institute research funding opportunities for social scientific studies of religion.  Along with our McNamara and […]

2016-12-21T22:06:57-05:00

Rachel Kraus, Executive Officer

In many ways, the Association for the Sociology of Religion is in excellent shape as we enter 2017.  Our 78th annual meeting in Seattle this year was a great success.  Highlights of this year’s meeting included Lori Beaman’s Presidential Address, “Living Well Together in a (non)Religion Future:  Contributions from the Sociology of Religion” and Linda Woodhead’s Furfey Lecture “Is No Religion the New Religion?”  We offered more sessions than even before, including four ASR/ASA Joint Sessions and fourteen author-meets-critic sessions.  Participation in the annual meeting was at an all-time high with around 250 registrants.  Further details about these and other aspects of the annual meeting are available on the ASR website at www.sociologyofreligion.com.

Call for Scholars: Interreligious Explorations of Homelessness

2016-10-19T20:11:59-04:00

A unique opportunity to participate in the interreligious analysis of a pressing social issue
Scholars will meet at Seattle University on April 25 and 26, 2017. During the course of the two days, they will learn about the issue of homelessness from legal experts, policy analysts, and economists; participate in a discussion with local stakeholders, including religious leaders; and prepare paper proposal abstracts […]
