Public Theologies of Technology and Presence

The Institute of Buddhist Studies, with the support of the Henry Luce Foundation, invites proposals from scholars across the academic disciplines specializing in any religious traditions, theologians from all religious traditions, and professional journalists, to participate in a three-year research and journalism initiative and series of meetings addressing the impacts of technologies on human relationships.

This initiative seeks to support scholars of religion, theologians, and journalists to powerfully address a central concern of contemporary life: The ways in which technologies reshape human relationships and alter how people are or are not “present” to each other.

Call for Papers: Workshop on Gender, Religion and Family Violence

Catherine Holtmann, Director of the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Centre for Family Violence Research (MMFC) and Nancy Nason-Clark, director of the MMFC’s Religion and Violence Research Team at the University of New Brunswick, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada invite researchers and graduate students to submit paper proposals for a workshop that will take place September 13-14, 2016.

Young Scholars in American Religion Program – Call for Applications

The Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture at IUPUI announces a program for early career scholars in American Religion. Beginning in 2016, a series of seminars devoted to the enhancement of teaching and research for younger scholars in American Religion will be offered in Indianapolis. The aims of all sessions of the program are to develop ideas and methods of instruction in a supportive workshop environment, stimulate scholarly research and writing, and create a community of scholars that will continue into the future.

The Sociology of Religion Group (SOR) aims to bridge the gap between sociology of religion and religious studies. For the most part, these fields have been isolated from each other with scholars from each existing in separate departments, attending different meetings, and publishing in different journals. We believe that this cloistering has hindered the development of both fields and that only a cross-fertilization that transgresses departmental boundaries can foster progress in research. Therefore, we invite scholars from both sociology of religion and religious studies to submit innovative papers pushing the boundaries of both fields.

Proposals for paper presentations, workshops, posters or colloquia are invited for the Fifth International Conference on Religion and Spirituality in Society being held at the University of California at Berkely in Berkeley, USA from 16-17 April. We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplines and perspectives that will contribute to the conference discourse.
