RRA’s Jacquet Awards for Research in the Study of Religion

The Religious Research Association announces its annual competition for the Constant R. Jacquet Research Award to support research in religion. Applied, client-centered projects are given priority, but basic social scientific research on any aspect of religion is also regularly funded.  Proposals from students, especially Ph.D. candidates and scholars who are in the early stages of their careers are particularly encouraged. Applicants are required to be members of the RRA. Full-time students may join the Association at the time of their application. All others must have become members in the RRA in the year immediately prior to their application.

The Science of Hope and Optimism Funding Initiative

We are pleased to announce a $1.4 million funding initiative for new research in the social sciences on hope and optimism. We encourage proposals for research using a variety of methods from new and established scientists on these topics. We especially welcome applications from researchers in cognitive, developmental, personality, health and social psychology, as well as sociology. Interdisciplinary teams that include members from cognate areas – e.g. cognitive science, anthropology, nursing, and biology – are encouraged though not required.

We invite requests for non-residential funding (between $50,000 and $250,000) for projects not to exceed two years in duration.  For more information, including details on research questions, deadlines, eligibility requirements, and application instructions please visit the project website: hopeoptimism.org.

Engaged Scholars Fellowships for Studying Congregations

The Congregational Studies Team is pleased to announce the availability of Fellowships* to support scholars who are interested in disciplined inquiry into the life of local communities of faith in North America. These 18-month fellowships include $18,000 in research support, plus $2,000 for related travel. In addition, Fellowships include a program of mentoring by a senior-scholar coach and participation in two summer consultations that bring together the Fellows and coaches with the Team.

The Latino Protestant Congregations Project is Funding a Team of Research Fellows for 2014-2017

Position: Through a grant funded by Lilly Endowment, we invite advanced graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and junior faculty to participate in a unique, three year research fellowship starting in June 2014. The Latino Protestant Congregations (LPC) Project is forming a team of ten researchers to conduct qualitative observations and interviews in Latino Protestant churches across the United States. LPC Fellows are expected to gain entrée to five local congregations in their geographic region and complete profiles for each, including field notes and audio interviews. LPC Fellows and the LPC Project Directors will gather annually to plan, collaborate, and debrief during the funding period. Spanish fluency is desired but not mandatory.
